Job Description
SENIOR ASSOCIATE DEAN AND DIRECTOR, Office of Graduate Education (OGE), to report to the Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate and Graduate Education and lead efforts to enhance the academic, personal, and professional success and well-being of MIT’s 7000+ graduate students. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to shape the future of graduate education at one of the world’s premier teaching and research institutions. Will oversee a staff of twenty-six and work closely with academic department leadership, faculty, administrators, and other offices, in particular those in student and residential life, who support MIT’s graduate students; and play a critical role in building a strong, productive relationship with the newly formed graduate student union and help design and implement necessary changes to Institute and departmental systems, policies, and practices.
Job Requirements:REQUIRED: master’s (Ph.D. preferred) degree; ten years’ university administration experience (e.g., developing graduate academic support programs, academic advising, and/or leadership of an office/major program); a collaborative, collegial, accessible, and consultative leadership style and ability to actively engage others in implementing an ambitious, long-term vision for OGE and graduate education at MIT; track record of successfully leading significant organizational change strategies; ability to influence direction and decisions in a decentralized academic environment with multiple constituencies and levels of leadership; ability to work effectively with others across the Institute to foster constructive dialogue, build consensus, and achieve goals; and experience with strategic planning, program and personnel management, budgeting, and finance. Seek an effective communicator, collaborator, and connector who is interested in supporting graduate students, understands their unique and diverse needs, and can identify new opportunities and build new systems and practices to advance OGE’s goals. Salary range $175 - 195,000
